Welcome to Leigh Academy Rainham

To my new year 7 students, it is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to formally welcome you to Leigh Academy Rainham, having been offered a place with us for 2025. Although you will not be joining us until September, lots will happen before then to ensure that you are well prepared to start an exciting new chapter in your life as a new student of Leigh Academy Rainham! 

Prior to September you will take part in an induction program that will prepare you for secondary school life with us. We will meet with your primary school teachers to find out more about you as an individual and will meet you during school visits in June and July.  You will also be invited to a transition day event at the academy so you can experience what a day at secondary school is like to prepare you for your September start. During these meetings at your school and the transition day we will ensure that you have opportunities to ask questions about transport, uniform, timetable, clubs and the setup of the school day and anything else you might want to know!

While I am sure you are excited I appreciate you may also have many questions or even some worries, that you can discuss with us during transition. In the summer we will share a website with you designed to answer questions and provide information to help you get ready for your September start. What we can share with you now is that you will have a two weekly timetable that includes a range of subjects including English, Maths, Science, Languages, History, Geography, RE, Art, Dance, Music, Drama, IT, PE and Technology (Food, Textiles and Product Design). Our fantastic team of teachers are incredibly keen to provide a variety of additional activities and clubs for you to access, including our Student Leadership Council that will represent the voice of year 7. You will be placed in one of three colleges (Angelou, Turing or Kingsley)  which will become your new school family; you will find out which college you are in following the transition events so that you can order your stylish new college uniform ready for September! Perhaps one of the most unique opportunities for you is that you will receive your very own Chromebook device which will be yours to use both in school and at home from years 7 to 11. 

We will have incredibly high expectations of you once you join us. We will want you to show how hardworking you can be and  take a keen interest in your learning, be well mannered, well behaved and respectful to all staff and other students at all times. You will be well rewarded for being an exceptional LEIGH Learners, a member of our community who understands, respects and follows the school rules. We will ensure when you leave Leigh Academy Rainham you are a model community member who will be highly successful in the next stage of your life. 

It is from this point onwards that I invite you to embrace our strapline of ‘Dream, Believe, Achieve’ and ask how you will dream big about what you want to do with your life and what you hope to achieve having been exposed to all the wonderful new opportunities that your education at Leigh Academy Rainham will bring. There is no ceiling to what you can do. If you want it enough, you can make it happen!
