Course Outline

The WJEC Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology provides an understanding of criminology relevant to various roles within the criminal justice sector, social work, probation work, and fields like sociology and psychology. This qualification is designed to offer engaging and practical learning experiences that focus on real-world applications within the criminal justice system.

Course Content

Students will study the following:

  • 1) Understanding different types of crime and influences on perceptions of crime: Changing Awareness of Crime:

  • 2) Criminological Theories: Understanding why people commit crimes using various criminological theories.

  • 3) Crime Scene to Courtroom: Understanding the criminal justice process from crime identification to courtroom verdicts.

  • 4) Crime and Punishment: Applying knowledge of criminology to evaluate social control measures.

Course Assessment

Units 2 and 4 are assessed via examinations that include short and extended answer questions based on applied scenarios.

Units 1 and 3 are assessed through controlled assignments.
