Please see the below the following information regarding Post 16 Student Dress Code at Leigh Academy Rainham:

‘Our aim is to foster a professional learning environment that prepares students for future success, reflecting the standards of a business setting. Adherence to this dress code is compulsory for all students.

Dress Code for Male Students includes:

  • Collared Formal Shirt and Tie: Compulsory for all male students
  • A Suit: A tailored jacket with tailored trousers.
  • Tailored Trousers: Smart, tailored trousers.
  • Footwear: Leather formal smart shoes such as: brogues or loafers. *Boat Shoes are not allowed.
  • Knitwear: A V-necked or quarter-zip jumper ranging from the following colours: blue, black, grey, burgundy, purple and dark green.
  • Hair: Natural coloured hair and hairstyle.
  • Backpack: A bag in which is suitable to carry course folders, chromebook and additional resources such as: pencil case and lunch

Dress Code for Female Students includes:

  • Tailored Blouses and Tops: Tailored blouses and tops that cover the majority of the shoulder.
  • Tailored Skirt: A smart, tailored skirt.
  • Tailored Dress: A smart, tailored dress.
  • Footwear: Leather formal smart shoes. *No Heels allowed
  • Knitwear: A smart jumper or cardigan.
  • Backpack: A bag in which is suitable to carry course folders, chromebook and additional resources such as: pencil case and lunch

Uniform that will not be accepted for Post-16 Study:

The following items are considered inappropriate for the Sixth Form dress code and are not permitted:

  • Denim garments of any kind.
  • Clothing with studded or riveted pockets.
  • Leather and leather-look garments (excluding formal shoes).
  • Open-toed shoes, including sandals and flip-flops.
  • Trainers (unless specifically required for a Performing Arts Acting or practical Sport lesson).
  • Off-the-shoulder, halter neck, and thin-strapped tops.
  • Hoodies or sports jackets.
  • Skirts/dress hemlines that are higher than the halfway point between the hip bone and the knee.
  • Exposed midriffs.
  • Bodycon garments.
  • Leggings.
  • Shorts.
  • Over-the-knee socks.
  • Unnatural coloured hair.
  • Excessive fake-tan.
  • Excessive make-up.
  • Excessive nails [claws]

Subject-Specific Dress Code Requirements

Students undertaking specific AAQ courses have additional dress code requirements for practical lessons.

AAQ Sport, Exercise and Science Students:

For all practical lessons, students must adhere to the following:

  • Hair should be tied back.
  • No jewellery should be worn.
  • Sportswear: Students must wear appropriate sportswear, which should comprise of:
    • Trainers
    • Tracksuit bottoms
    • A plain T-shirt
    • Either a plain sweatshirt or a plain tracksuit jacket

AAQ Performing Arts Acting Students:

For all lessons, students must adhere to the following:

  • Hair should be tied back.
  • No jewellery should be worn.
  • Industry-Standard Rehearsal ‘Uniform’: Students must wear the accepted industry-standard rehearsal ‘uniform’, which should comprise of:
    • Loose black top
    • Loose black trousers (to allow for easy movement)
    • Soft black shoes (e.g., jazz shoes or trainers)

Please Note: Students who are required to wear different clothing (such as sportswear or blacks) for a subject-specific reason are asked to bring a change of clothing for that purpose. When outside that specific lesson, normal business dress must be worn, including upon arrival at and departure from the academy.

Lanyard Identity Cards:

All students must wear their Identity Card/Windsor College lanyard. This card must be visible around the neck at all times. This is a legal requirement, not solely an academy rule.

Challenging Students Uniform:

If any member of staff feels that an element of a student’s appearance is inappropriate, we reserve the right to address the matter.
