Chatham Carnival – Arts Opportunity

Love Chatham, Love Medway Carnival illustration.

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Chatham is to have a community town centre carnival this summer for the first time in 20 years!

It will be held on Saturday 9th July 2022 with two walking carnival processions in the morning and afternoon, and throughout the day there will be exhibitions, demonstrations, live music and stalls featuring local community organisations and projects.

Emergency Exit Arts (EEA), one of Britain’s pioneering outdoor arts companies, is going to be working with us at LAR in preparation for the event. They will come into school and for a day (lessons 1-4) work with some of our students who choose to opt into this unique opportunity, creating costumes that the students will wear and parade in during the carnival processions (if they are able to attend). There are up to 60 spaces available as part of this project. If there is significant interest in this event we will allocate spaces based on first come first served basis form the reply slips below.

Ideally we would like students to take part in both the creative costume making workshops and the carnival itself, but understand that this may not be possible for some families. If there are students who would very much like to be involved in just the workshops this will still be possible. If your child would like to join in with this creative opportunity, please complete the permission slip and return to Miss Swanston by Wednesday 22nd June.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Swanston | Teacher of Art
